Raising Builders: Sparking an Entrepreneurial Mindset in Your Child 💡
#ParentingInsight #FamilyFriday
TL;DR: Every parent wants their children to be wise with money. But what if we could also raise them to create value, solve problems, and serve others? That’s what we’re exploring this month with our Entrepreneurial Thinking Toolkit. It’s not about turning them into mini-CEOs. It’s about helping them think like builders - with faith, initiative, and godly creativity.
"Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings..."
— Proverbs 22:29 (NIV)
Entrepreneurship isn’t just about profits. It’s about skill, diligence, creativity, and service. All Kingdom-worthy traits. Business is a God idea. Whether your child grows up to be an entrepreneur, executive, engineer, stay-at-home parent, or minister, God honors excellence and initiative done in His name. Teaching our children to build wisely is one way we help them stand before kings.
Why Entrepreneurial Thinking?
Let’s be honest: we all want our children to grow up with a healthy relationship with money, value creation, and work. But instead of just telling them to “save their allowance,” we’re giving them tools to spot problems and imagine possibilities. Whether they grow into entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, or simply initiative-takers in their communities, the seeds of builder thinking matter.
So while they rested this week, I worked behind the scenes on a fun, faith-filled Entrepreneurial Thinking Toolkit + Month Plan. Our Alpha version, launching next week. Here’s what we’re excited about:
12 Wisdom Cards tied to entrepreneurial principles and biblical values
Matching Table Talk Prompts to guide thoughtful family conversations
A child-friendly Idea Builder worksheet to turn problems into possibilities
Weekly reflections in our Thinking Like a Builder tracker
A curated Story Time Stack with reads, activities, and possibly some Shark Tank Kids episodes
We’re starting slow and simple - just 4 wisdom cards this month, focused on Mindset & Motivation. Think: wisdom, faith, kindness, and patience. It's not about hustling hard. It's about stewarding well.
Family-Friendly Checklist: Planting Builder Seeds
Want to try something similar? Here’s a soft-launch checklist for parents:
Choose a theme or value: (e.g. creativity, initiative, stewardship)
Add a weekly reflection time: “What problem did you notice? What could be done?”
Keep it fun and light. You’re planting seeds, not running a pitch competition
Watch/read something inspiring together each week (biblical, businessy, or both!)
Celebrate progress, not perfection. Growth is the goal.
Action Step
Take one evening this week to talk to your children about solving problems. Ask:
“If you could fix one thing at school or home, what would it be? What would you do?”
Use that as a launchpad. Bonus points if you try sketching it out together on paper!
This is how faith meets creativity. How wisdom meets action. Let’s raise builders. One step, one idea, one conversation at a time.
