The Apartment, the Layoff, and the Leap of Faith 🏗️
#WealthWednesday #FinanceInsight
TL;DR: I took a big risk investing in an off-plan apartment. Then got laid off. Then God showed up. The journey taught me more than just real estate.
“Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.”
— Ecclesiastes 11:1 (ESV)
God isn’t against risk. He invites wise, faith-filled action. This verse pictures someone taking a chance that doesn’t pay off instantly, but eventually brings a return. In modern terms? Invest with wisdom. Trust with patience. Pray through the process.
The Apartment, the Layoff, and the Leap of Faith
There’s something humbling about staring at a billboard during your commute and realizing: At my current income, I could afford that apartment…in 33 years...maybe.
That moment came for me. The math wasn't mathing, so I shelved the dream. Until one day when I stumbled upon an off-plan apartment project not far from where I lived. It was local. Inviting. Possibly doable.
Curious, I visited the site. Dug through Google. Had a solid call with a rep.
I asked every question I could think of. Then I asked more.
Was it a risk? Absolutely. I was stepping into a space I’d never invested in before, and the stakes were high. I didn’t have a lump sum saved or access to debt I could fall back on, and the temptation to surrender to the anxiety of failure was real. But after the weight of uncertainty sank in, a quiet question surfaced:
“What if God helps you succeed? Won’t you be grateful you took the leap of faith?”
So I did the research I knew to do. I prayed. I had long conversations with my wife. I sought wise counsel. I reviewed my spreadsheets again. Then I signed the dotted line.
Several months passed. Progress was promising. Then came a massive company downsizing. And I was laid off. I had been counting on that paycheck to keep up with investment payments and meet monthly expenses. (Cue nervous laughter 😅)
But God, as He often does, provided. I had a buffer, got another job soon, and by His grace, kept going. Eventually, I completed the investment.
Looking back, I’m grateful not just for the property, but for the process:
The growth I experienced.
The prayers, fears, and faith to move while afraid.
The countless articles, conversations, and deep dives.
The real estate coach who helped me think long-term and learn to assess.
The real estate investment firm that delivered with integrity and transparency.
Sometimes, the best classes come with a hefty price tag and no classroom. Faith, here, meant moving forward with wisdom and trust.
✅ Checklist: Should You Take That Financial Risk?
Here are 7 questions to ask before you jump:
Have I prayed about it and invited God’s guidance?
Have I talked it through with my spouse or trusted counsel?
Do I understand the investment (not just the pitch)?
Have I looked at the worst-case scenario and prepared for it?
Am I making this move from faith, not just fear or FOMO?
Have I done my research (books, mentors, coaches)?
Will this stretch me without sinking me?
Action Step:
Think about your next big financial decision. It could be an investment, a job switch, or starting something new. Ask yourself: “Am I growing in wisdom, or just grasping at wealth?”
Then take the next faithful step: learn, pray, seek wise counsel… and trust God with the outcome.

First, a BIG hearty CONGRATULATIONS!!!! This is very inspiring Evans, more so when I see God's hand working out the a thousand little things that eventually (and beautifully) manifested at the end. Love your pieces, keep on writing.
