The Charity Filter: Giving That Makes God Smile 😇
#WealthWednesday #FinanceInsight
TL;DR: God owns everything. We just manage it. When you support the causes close to His heart, and yours, you turn generosity into Kingdom investment. Don’t wait until “someday.” Start where you are.
“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”
— 1 Timothy 6:18 (NIV)
This verse isn't a suggestion. It’s a stewardship strategy for Kingdom-minded living. Giving isn’t about guilt, it’s about grace. It’s God saying, “You’re holding My resources. How will you reflect My heart?”
Giving Is a Vertical Transaction
Every act of giving, whether money, time, or energy, is ultimately between you and God. Yes, it may bless people horizontally, but it starts with acknowledging the true Owner vertically. And He’s not asking for a donation. He’s inviting you into partnership.
When you give, you participate in His provision plan. You're deploying His resources. You’re reflecting God’s generosity as a child made in His image.
What Kind of Charity Should I Support?
Good question. It doesn’t have to be one charity, just the right kind.
Here’s how I think about it: I give where God’s heart overlaps with mine.
That includes:
Spreading the gospel
Discipling and mentoring
Strengthening families or the Church
Feeding the hungry
Healing and restoring dignity
Educating and empowering others
Some people give where they see tears. Others give where they see potential. Either way, it’s a privilege to participate in God's Kingdom coming on earth as it is in heaven.
✅ Stewardship Filter: A Charity Checklist
Use this to assess where and how to give meaningfully.
Does this cause align with God’s Word and values?
Is it close to your heart or calling?
Can you trace the impact - quantifiable or eternal?
Are you giving from faith, not just impulse or pressure?
Are you making room in your budget for generosity?
Have you prayed about where to give and how much?
Giving doesn’t reduce your wealth. It connects you to purpose. It reminds you who you are (generous), whose you are (God’s), what matters most (love), and who it’s ultimately for (God).
So, what charity would you support?
Action Step
Don’t wait for “someday when I’m ready.” Start now.
Pray. Ask God what’s on His heart that should be on yours.
Observe. What causes move you? What burdens won’t leave your spirit?
Research. Find organizations or people who steward those causes well.
Give as you go. Maybe it’s Ksh 500, maybe it’s your skills, maybe it’s volunteering once a month.
Review. Reflect often: “Is this the kind of giving that pleases God… and looks like Him?”
God’s the source. His wallet’s so BIG, He lets you manage a slice like it’s yours. Just don’t forget whose name’s on the account.
